The ply count in a cashmere pullover
2-PLY CASHMERE PULLOVERS
Maison Eric Bompard’s pullovers knitted using 2-ply cashmere are designed to be worn in Spring and Summer, or as a second skin, under a cardigan or jacket, for example. However, thanks to cashmere’s thermoregulating properties, a 2–ply cashmere wool pullover will be far warmer than a sheep’s wool pullover with the same thickness.
4-PLY CASHMERE PULLOVERS
4-ply cashmere is known to have a “standard” level of thickness. Pullovers knitted using this generous wool with a great softness provide a snuggly-wrapped feel, and can be worn mid-season or in Winter, with or without an additional layer, according to temperature.
SIX-PLY PULLOVERS AND ABOVE
Pullovers knitted using six to twelve-ply cashmere wool are must-have pieces for the Winter wardrobe. These generous, cosy pullovers provide an incomparable sensation of being wrapped in softness.
The ply count in a cashmere clothing item does not determine its quality, but it does determine its thickness and therefore its thermal properties. This makes the ply count one of the most useful criteria in choosing the right cashmere. The higher the ply count used, the softer, cosier and warmer the clothing item.
Of course, the ply count also determines the price of a cashmere pullover. An eight-ply cashmere item will necessarily be more expensive than a two-ply item, as the amount of material needed for an equivalent model is four times higher.
While two-ply pullovers are most commonly available, when creating its Winter clothing, Maison Eric Bompard works with four, six, eight, or even twelve-ply pullovers for its warmest pieces
Does cashmere keep you warm? Cashmere for Winter
The ply count, therefore, determines the thickness of a cashmere clothing item and, of course, how warm it will keep you.
A 4-ply cashmere pullover is a wardrobe must-have for Winter: whether worn with an extra layer or not, it will provide you with the right level of warmth every day, while offering superior breathable qualities than other materials- synthetic ones- of course, or even natural ones. Transitioning from a cold environment to a heated room will no longer be a problem.
Those who really feel the cold will love knitwear in six-to-twelve ply cashmere wool, for its cosy, thick, and truly enveloping qualities.
Beyond four and six-ply pullovers or higher-ply pullovers, which are must-have pieces for your Winter wardrobe, cashmere accessories and clothing are perfect for facing the onset of frosty weather, such as cold snaps.
Ponchos, stoles, snoods, hats, hoodies, cardigans, gilets, large zipped-rollnecks, trousers, coats, long dresses… Men, women, children… Everyone can wear cashmere head-to-toe. Maison Eric Bompard’s baby and children’s collection wraps your little ones up in unrivalled softness and protects them from the cold like a warm hug from you.

WINTER CACHEMIRE FOR WOMEN
Can your wear cashmere in Summer?
Wearing cashmere in Summer does not seem an obvious thing to do. However, thanks to the thermoregulating qualities of this extraordinary fibre, your body’s natural temperature is regulated and humidity is easily eliminated.
On warm Summer days, it goes without saying that two-ply cashmere and extrafine cashmere are the ideal choice. These are enjoyably light and fine, while always remaining elegant.
Eric Bompard’s Extrafine collection comprises pieces you can wear like a second skin: a round neck or v-neck pullover, a cardigan, stoles, or tank tops are made using a blend of cashmere and silk or 2-ply cashmere.
What if the fineness of a fabric had no bearing on how resistant it was? This is possible, because Bompard’s workshops have developed a technique and have, over the years, attained unique expertise.
After carding, ironing and combing the longest and finest fibres, our artisans knit this extraordinary material with the utmost care, achieving an even more beautiful result at once dense, soft and fine.
From a crew neck pullover to a fitted or oversize pullover, by way of the cardigan and tank top, Eric Bompard’s extrafine clothing takes on many different shapes and colours. These are also expressed through a range of prints, both graphic and floral.
These Summer pullovers known as “light” pullovers are mostly manufactured using 100% cashmere, while other models are manufactured using a blend of cashmere and silk (70% cashmere and 30% silk).
Eric Bompard also offers a soft, warm and light baby wardrobe. Hoodies, cashmere baby pullovers, cashmere cardigans, cashmere blankets, cashmere slippers, cashmere plaids, cashmere baby leggings, cashmere baby hats, cashmere baby onesies… Our assortment of baby clothing and accessories is made using extrafine two-ply cashmere to make baby feel welcome, in the utmost softness and lightness, during the very first months.
